At Clarion Dental Care we know oral health is vital for a child’s development and we are here to help every step of the way with dentistry for your child. We are a family dental office & love seeing kids in our office!
We are committed to making your child’s dental visit pleasant and comfortable. Our practice utilizes the latest technological advances in the industry and strives to make this journey feel safe and rewarding for your child.
We encourage you to bring your child to our dental office every six months for a regular dental exam and cleaning. During this visit, Dr. Jewell and our dental team will gently clean your child’s teeth and check for signs of any dental problems. We want to build a positive, trusting relationship with your child at a young age. We are dedicated to ensuring that your child feels comfortable and safe at our office.
Every child reacts differently at every age to visiting the dentist. If we feel that your child may be having an unenjoyable experience in our office, we may decide to bring the child back on a better day to finish the appointment. Or, we may refer your child to a pediatric specialist for treatment.
In addition to regular check-ups, it is important that you help your child establish good oral hygiene habits at home. Teach your child to brush and floss their teeth every day, and help them maintain a balanced, healthy diet.
When should my child first see a dentist?
The American Dental Association recommends that a child first visit a dentist after their first tooth appears but no later than his or her first birthday. During early dental appointments with young children, we will gently examine the teeth gums. X-rays may be taken to reveal any decay and development of permanent teeth under the gums. We may clean your child’s teeth and apply topical fluoride to help protect the teeth against decay. Most important of all, we will review with you how to clean and care for your child’s teeth.
A new cavity-fighting liquid … that can replace the need for fillings!
Silver diamine fluoride is a liquid that can be used to halt the progression of cavities. This is especially helpful in small children who are not mature enough to handle routine fillings.
This liquid takes less than one minute for Dr. Jewell to apply, requires no noise, no drilling and at the same time kills the bacteria that cause further decay. It’s simple and easy!
Silver diamine fluoride is an FDA-approved antibiotic liquid made from silver and fluoride. The silver acts as an anti-microbial agent to strengthen the protective layer of your teeth while the fluoride works to halt tooth decay and prevent further damage from cavities. Silver diamine fluoride is quick, painless, and noninvasive.

Should my child go to a pediatric dental specialist?
This choice is completely up to you. We love seeing kids in our office but will refer to pediatric specialists if we feel your child will have a more enjoyable experience. We do not however currently have a pediatric specialist in Clarion County and so we make every effort to serve the community and alleviate the need for driving long distances. Creating a positive life-long dental experience is our primary goal for any patient.
If you choose to visit a specialist however we will absolutely support your decision and we are happy to recommend and refer to great pediatric specialists within driving distance. Contact us!
